Disability Power & Pride Inaugural Ball
The Disability Power & Pride Inaugural Ball was held on January 18, 2009 and was a hugely successful first-of-its-kind event. It took place at the National Press Club in Washington DC and drew a turnout of close to 1,000 guests at a time when many balls had to be canceled for lack of interest. The Ball was striking for how fun it was and for how many new people it brought together beyond the usual disability community advocates. Guests enjoyed fine dining, good conversation, speakers, dancing and all kinds of musical performances.
“The Disability Power and Pride Ball…was the first of its kind and is being called a ‘political coming out’ for people with disabilities.” – Roll Call
“It represents empowerment – we’re having our own ball… It’s important that our demographic is represented.”
– Jamie Kendall, WTOP 103.5
