DP&P Breakfast Forum: ‘The Road to Inclusivity in Emergency Preparedness’ with Marcie Roth and Richard Devylder
Don't miss Disability Power & Pride’s second Breakfast Forum: ‘The Road to Inclusivity in Emergency Preparedness’ with Marcie Roth and Richard Devylder. Our speakers will discuss the Obama Administration's efforts to create a more inclusive emergency preparedness system in the United States. They will also share what you need to know for your own preparedness, which is especially relevant given the recent natural disasters. Mr. Devylder is the Senior Adviser for Accessible Transportation at the Department of Transportation and Ms. Roth is the Director of the Disability Integration & Coordination Office at the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Mr. Devylder works at the Department of Transportation to ensure that “all Americans have the same opportunities for living, learning and earning.” Before joining the DOT, he was a special advisor to the director of the Office for Access and Functional Needs at the California Emergency Management Agency. As someone who has led an independent life despite being born without arms or legs, he truly understands the importance of accessibility in emergency services.
Ms. Roth is also a dynamic leader in the community. After President Obama appointed her Senior Advisor on Disability Issues in June 2009, she established the Office of Disability Integration and Coordination at FEMA, where she now works as Director. In this position, she leads FEMA’s initiative to serve the needs of children and adults with disabilities in emergency preparedness, response and recovery.
